“It’s not that the things and opportunities that we want in life don’t exist yet. It’s that we’re not yet aware of their existence (or the fact that we can really have them).” – Jen Sincero You are a Badass
Did the quote above hit home or did it confuse you? When I came across this line in the book, I was instantly blown back, like someone punched me in the stomach. It resonates so deeply that I can’t even begin to describe it. But let me try.
As we grow, we begin to learn what we want to be and do in life. We begin to see what our purpose is and we know exactly how to obtain it. This purpose feels so good to us and it feels right, like finding out that you are worth so much more than what you are doing now.
We know that we can reach this purpose, but we feel like the opportunities just aren’t there in order to be able to reach that purpose. Like the steps we know we need to take don’t seem visible. And we also try to do these things on our own, thinking that we don’t need anyone else to help us. I learned fairly quickly that people are sometimes put in your life to help you to live in your purpose.
A good friend of mine, Jazzie, from Jazzzie by Nature, is that person that was put in my life for a reason. I am thankful everyday to have a friend like here and that she made me be her friend (not really, but kind of lol) and I love her for that. Since she has been in my life, we have pushed each other to do things we thought were impossible.
She creates natural body and hair care products. When I first met her, she hadn’t been doing it for that long. She had a blog but had not posted anything and YouTube seemed like a foreign country. I pushed her to start blogging and making YouTube videos and here we are, two years later, and she has flourished with her business, co-wrote a book, has a YouTube channel, writes and PUBLISHES blog posts, and she’s a health coach and consultant. To see her grow over these past few years has been beautiful.
How she has helped me was to realize my full potential, that I could be doing so much more. Self-promotion for starters, when it comes to my books and really selling myself, because I have so much to give and offer other people. I know my purpose is to help people transition to a healthier life through recipes, pictures, content and books. I even have my first speaking engagement coming up next month and I could not be more excited (yay! I can add speaker to my repertoire!). The thought of speaking used to make my stomach turn. And because of Jazzie, she helped me to realize that living in my purpose, the opportunities will appear, which is the meaning of the quote above.
When you start saying yes to opportunities that present themselves instead of shying away and saying you can’t, don’t want to, or that’s impossible/crazy, more opportunities will come and in the most unforeseen ways possible. I did not see this women’s forum coming, nor did I see being contacted by people who want to be vendors and sponsors. Neither of us saw this coming. It’s funny because we hadn’t even gotten to the process of talking about sponsors or vendors. They came to us and kind of forced us to put things into place. It’s funny how the universe works.
This is the first step into living in my purpose. I do want to be a motivational speaker and teacher for adults and children alike. I’ve always been told I’d be a great teacher, but never in a certain capacity. Now that I know, I am doing everything I can to make those opportunities come to the surface. You start to see things differently when living in your purpose. Your whole attitude changes and the way you view things. Things you didn’t see or know before, you see and know them now.
Start telling yourself what you are, and not what you want to be. When telling yourself you are something, it becomes truth. It becomes real. Here is an excerpt from You are a Badass that makes what I am saying more clear.
“The moment you have the audacity to start believing in the not-yet seen, your reality will begin to shift…You have to change your thinking first, and then the evidence appears. Our big mistake is that we do it the other way around. We demand to see the evidence before we believe it to be true.”
I am a teacher. I am a blogger. I am a bestselling author. I am a speaker. I am a digital nomad. I am a world traveler. I am an influencer.
Tell yourself what you are, regardless of if the evidence behind it is not there to physically see, but remember that it is there. It is your truth, no one else’s. We have to remember that. Always remember that.
