It is finally September (1 month and 5 days until I am 29!), and the leaves are changing, as is the weather. Pumpkin spice everything is filling store shelves, and the air. Fall has always been my favorite time of year in Houston, simply because we actually have Fall weather. Aside from Summer, we have Fall, and it’s lovely. I wrote a post similar to this last year but each year, Fall means something different to me. It’s a time of new beginnings, and maybe that has to do with the fact that each Fall I become a year older. Though I may not feel the age difference, something definitely feels different, in a good way.
Fall to me means pumpkin spice coconut lattes, pumpkin spice Oreos (yes, they are vegan), pumpkin spice candles, pumpkin pie, pumpkin filled smoothies, and anything else pumpkin. Is it because I am a Fall baby? Possibly, however, I don’t think that would make a difference otherwise. Our seasons don’t actually change like most places. It’s either hot as hell, or cool for a few days (I live for those cool days when it gets upwards of 100 degrees).
This Year is Different
One thing for sure that is different about this school year is that we will be starting school in September due to Hurricane Harvey. Another difference is I am at a new school, teaching a higher grade and the subject I love the most, writing. This is going to be an amazing school year, much different than last year, in every way imaginable. I went from teaching four subjects to one, having no team to 2 co-teachers, classroom projector and a smart board that works, 6 weeks grading period to 9, 6 grades per week to 2, no library to a huge colorful one, and so much more. Needless to say (but I’m going to say it anyway), I am excited and I love my new school.
Another difference this Fall, I am moving to a new apartment next month, closer to my parents. The reason being? I will disclose that next month, so stay tuned. This apartment is much smaller, much cheaper, and more luxurious than my current one. Once I move and get settled, I will do a tour of my new space, as well as announce some life changing news.
As for my novels, they are currently on hold for the time being. I have been toying with the idea of changing genres, which will also affect the look of my blog. I want to dedicate my writing more to the vegan lifestyle. So you will see some big changes to my blog and my IG in the coming months and these changes will be permanent to coincide with my big life change.
Accomplishments in 2017
I am in a completely different space than I was last year – spiritually, financially, mentally, emotionally, and physically. So much can happen in a year and I think most people, who aren’t complacent, don’t realize that. This year alone, I have gotten out of some major debt (which will be talked about in my next blog post), I bought a new car (which was one of my goals in my 2017 goals video and post), I have a career teaching something that I love, I came out with my meal plans (finally), I am financially stable (which was another goal of mine for this year and I could not be more happier), and more is yet to come in these last 4 months of 2017. After all I have accomplished this year, I could not ask for more. Most of what was on my list to accomplish this year, I have done it.
Success isn’t achieved by how much money you make, but by what you have accomplished. Most people my age have not accomplished as much as I have, and I’m not even 30 yet. I am excited to see what I will accomplish between now and next October, when I turn 30. I think my 30th will be a big turn up, for sure.
It is always this time of year that I take the time to reflect on what I have achieved from January up until this point. What does Fall mean to you and what goals have you accomplished this year?
